As a developer or a professional in anything, networking is key to career growth, your social capital grows the more you network and you gain access to things that are somewhat hard to reach by others simply by knowing people of affluence or influence. There are those who struggle with being able to connect with other people on LinkedIn and this post is addressed at individuals who would like to improve their conversion rate.
On LinkedIn, there seems to be two major ideological factions with regards to networking; the first faction is conservative and tends to evaluate a connection request before accepting, the second faction is liberal and tends to accept connection requests as they come. I never really understood why the conservatives have a screening process until recently.
I realize now that the quality of your news feed plays a huge role in how you enjoy your experience on LinkedIn, by accepting a connection request, you're subscribing to follow said person and as a result you can see the content your connections interacts with. Everything you post, comment on, like or interact with will be shown to your connections in the hopes that they should resonate with it as a result of the fact that they connected with you.
If you're having issues with people accepting your connection request, you should attach a note to your connection request, it gives it a more human feel than the default message LinkedIn sends to the person. Lastly you should review your timeline and ask yourself "will the people I'm connecting with enjoy looking at the kind of things I like or post?". You have to recall that a person who accepts your connection request today can change their mind tomorrow and undo it if your actions on LinkedIn are perceived as underwhelming.
