Access to financial opportunity is one that has been subject to intense debate for years as many believe that there are barriers to entry that prevents the marginalized from gaining access to resources that can prequalify for opportunities to self actualize through value exchange. All the fanciness aside, the crux of the argument is that if people don't have access to materials and tools because of poverty, they're predestined to be unable to rise above the socio-economic status they're born into and that lack of social mobility is bad.
A RELATABLE EXPLANATION
Charities and other entities have attempted to subsidize the cost of acquiring these resources and/or outrightly providing these resources through grants or policy changes aimed at stimulating diversity or encouraging equal access to opportunities. I have previously written about how code editors (which are used to create software solutions) need to be more mobile-friendly as a great many people can't afford to own laptops despite the proliferation of lightweight code editors for PC.
AND VS CODE FOR THE WEB WAS BORN
Recently, Microsoft released a web version of their open-source code editor (which is arguably the world's most popular code editor), that now allows people to be to write code on the web, it is accessible for free on all devices, even mobile devices ๐คฏ). VS Code for the web is currently supported by just Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, these browsers account for the majority of the web browser market, so it's quite fair.
BIG SCREENS EQUATE BETTER CODE
While coding is a more pleasurable experience when you have access to bigger screens, with the web version of visual studio code, one can use a tablet to write code seamless. As mobile devices are a lot cheaper than PCs, this by extension greatly increases access to software development as a career path. Note that the web version doesn't allow one to run or debug code, however, there are workarounds like using Github pages and some other free hosting solutions to try to test the written code. I strongly believe that over time more features will come to the web browser.
VS CODE IS UNIQUE FOR ITS INTEGRATION
There have been other online code editors for a while, however, like I mentioned earlier, VS code is a favourite and it's no surprise because it integrates well with other digital infrastructure like Github and there are a ton of extensions that can be found on VS Code. I believe Microsoft learnt a lot from the viral success of the Android and Android play store as it proves that platforms grow faster when you give power to the people (I mean developers ๐). VS Code borrows heavily from the ideology that helped the Android.
FINALLY
This ties into an earlier post where I explained that as Moore's theory predicts an increase in the power of devices, we'll be able to build powerful enterprise solutions and deploy them on any device. That would be all for the week, see you on Monday ๐. If you've noticed, I've stopped blogging over the weekend and that's because I'm now taking my own advice about work-life balance and resting when necessary ๐.
