Does IQ matter in software engineering?

IQ is overrated! You like that yes? and to a large extent I believe it too, your tenacity as a person can get you more things than your IQ.

There is however a fine detail we gloss over, this rather distinct feature lies in the memory of people with impressive IQ levels, the ability to remember things is without a doubt a blessing.

In software engineering you're not required to be a walking encyclopedia, we look things up more than the average professional, what does increase speed and reduce fumbling around is when you remember exactly what you're looking for by its name rather than by what it does. Nomenclature is a pretty big deal in programming which is why people with high IQs have an advantage over their peers.

Luckily the more time you spend coding the more likely you are to remember the stuff that matters, I can't promise that you won't look around for properties, tags or functions, I can however assure you that with time you're less likely to do that on small projects.
