A lot of people who can help grow your career are quite busy, if you can get them to commit to helping you develop, you should follow up consistently, it makes sense that if a person is capable of helping you then the person is of value, valuable people are tightly engaged.
You'll get a lot of last minute cancelation on appointments but that shouldn't deter you. A lot of software engineers who can mentor you sometimes test your passion in order to know if you're serious about software engineering. It's understandable seeing as software engineering isn't as easy as it looks and it can test the willpower of the average person.
You have to be willing to grow on your own while trying to get feedback from your mentor(s), you also have to be willing to call on your mentors as a last resort, remember, they're really busy so whatever you're engaging them for has to be very serious.
