The new remote work policy is great for employees, saving them time and precious productive energy that would have been lost in the process of commuting thus making employees (who are able to work remotely) more productive and improving employee satisfaction. In the tech industry, software engineers are beginning to clamour for remote working benefits with some even choosing to take a pay cut by leaving their current employment for one that offers remote working opportunity.
HEALTH AND SOCIAL IMPLICATIONS OF WORKING FROM HOME
Despite the growing clamour for remote work as a form of work-life balance, there are certain challenges that working from home can present which isn't being talked about yet. In the absence of daily commuting and physical interaction, there is a void that must be filled, where would the average person get their minimum dose of sunlight (which has health implications) and get to stretch their legs a bit (by way of walking from place to place)?.
A lot of individuals are losing the subconscious exercise they get from simply moving around. Those who work remotely have to be intentional about physically exerting themselves by going on long walks and physically interacting with others. Software engineers have to work harder at maintaining work-life balance because a lot of times the physical act of leaving the office is what conditions software engineers into understanding that they are closed for work. Be that as it may, I believe the corporate world is changing and the rules of engagement will have to change, a lot of employees won't be measured in terms of physical presence but in terms of utility.
