Movies have somewhat created the wrong stereotype about software engineers, We're depicted as antisocial individuals who are arrogant from time to time but the truth is that you'll hardly come across these software engineers. The average software engineer is jovial and shockingly humble.
It is very typical of senior software engineers to pretend to be newbies while trying to evaluate the skill level of people around him or her, chances are you won't know a senior engineer till you present a very entertaining challenge. The industry requires a high level of humility to grow as there is so much to know. Proud engineers don't make it very far in software engineering.
It helps if you're quiet and watch for those who seem to have a very deep understanding of not just things you know but things you don't know, if you're lucky, other people around them know they're senior devs, if you're not so lucky you'll just have to pay attention and listen to people talk about their projects.
